Title: Information Technology (IT) Assistant (1 Position)
Duty Station: Kampala
Start Date: As Soon As Possible
Salary Range between:1,691,290 - 2,603,664
Reports to: Operations Manager
Contract Duration: 1 year with possibility of extension
Purpose
The IT Assistant is responsible for operations and support of ICT equipment and systems in the country including, but not limited to local area networks, PCs, communication tools, video and voice conferencing systems, and internet links. As the primary IT contact in the Kampala office, the IT Assistant will liaise on a daily basis with Senior IT officer, IT providers and other organizations in the country for the effective delivery of services to staff.
Roles and Responsibilities;
- Assist the office in implementing set standards for applications that meets the needs of the users and supports the overall Information and Communication Technology.
- Monitor and maintain the LAN, Network Servers, Routers, Printers, LAN Points, Switches, Patch panels, Access points, Modem, etc to prevent faults occurring.
- Carry out new installations and routine maintenance tours of ICT equipment.
- Ensure that ICT problem recovery is done as quickly as possible and make regular system back-ups.
- Assist with the installation of the software packages, basic repair/maintenance of computer hardware and other equipment.
- Train war Child staff on email system, utilization of other IT software systems
- Maintain the inventory of ICT equipment and keep track of movements of ICT equipment.
- Assist in the drafting of memoranda and technical documentation on ICT matters and equipment operating procedures.
- Provide Technical support to procurement of IT equipment and certification on delivery to facilitate payments to suppliers
- Evaluate needs for upgrading and eventually replacing ICT equipment in the offices, to meet with War Child standards.
- Support the identification of risks, issues and concerns related to ICT and timely inform management for decision making
- Carry out administrative duties, within the area of competence
- Maintain a record of all equipment received for repairs and maintenance
- Support to maintain an inventory schedule of all IT equipment and software in use and in the store, through diagnosing their status and performance
- Timely respond to and resolve IT service outages by determining the probable cause, contacting the service providers where necessary and escalating to management if necessary
- Perform other duties as required or as assigned by line manager.
Qualifications, Skills and Competence required;
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from a recognized University
- Certificate in CISCO NETWORKING an advantage
- 1 year experience in IT related position in an NGO or related agency
- Technical competencies such as Computer Technician Strong organizational skills with aability to multitask and prioritize.
- Ability to speak and write good English.
- Ability to support diverse teams
- Ability to effectively present information and respond appropriately to questions from management
- Good, proven experience of training
- Flexible approach to managing and prioritizing multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
- Experience of proactively identifying and addressing issues.
- Ability to work with a high degree of professionalism.
