               JOB DESCRIPTION

SENIOR COORDINATOR MHPSS

Based in: Kampala – Uganda (with 50% field travel)

Reports to: Programme Development and Quality Manager

 

 Purpose

As a Senior Coordinator MHPSS you are the technical lead in the area of Psychosocial support and responsible for setting up projects in this area. You ensure quality implementation in the refugee hosting districts in Uganda. Other tasks will include training of staff and counterparts, technical monitoring and coaching.

 

Objectives of the job

 

  •             Quality assurance of MHPSS interventions
  •             Support in the development of new project proposals.
  •             Draft internal and external programme reports. 
  •             Coordination with agencies focusing their programming on MHPSS.
  •             Strengthen MHPSS working group in Uganda.
  •             Contribute to the development of a localisation hub for MHPSS evidenced based methodologies
  •             Proactively participate in the development of tools on MHPSS.

    Essential functional relations

     

    The Senior Coordinator MHPSS reports directly to the Programme development and Quality Manager

     

    She/he works closely with the M&E Coordinator and project staff in the project areas.

     

    Roles and Responsibilities

     

     

  1. Quality implementation of MHPSS intervention
  •             Support partners and WCA implementation team to adhere to fidelity and quality standards for the MHPSS packages and ensure that recommended tools are used for quality implementation.
  •             Develop capacity building plans for MHPSS staff and organise frequent coaching and mentoring sessions with them.
  •             Remains up to date based on WCA and sector programming practice and international standards and guidelines.
  •             Contributes to internal and external reporting and annual plans.
  •             Support implementation of research project related to MHPSS

     

     

  1. Programme Development
  •             Contributes in writing concept notes and project proposals on MHPSS.
  •             Contributes in the further development of MHPSS interventions in collaboration with PSS specialist based in HQ.
  •             Proactively pursues the idea of MHPSS localisation hub in Uganda.

     

  1. Trainings and Capacity building
  •             Provides ongoing support, guidance and advice to partners and WC program staff in relation to MHPSS.
  •             Identifies specific training needs and ensures training, coaching and support is offered to the partners, project staff and volunteers in order to build their capacity in MHPSS.
  •             Promotes professional learning through the development and review of individual plans for training staff.
  •             Upon request organizes trainings for partners in Uganda and neighbouring countries.

     

  1. Coordination and representation 
  •             Liaises with other technical counterparts in the field of MHPSS.
  •             Strengthens MHPSS working group in Uganda.
  •             Supports advocacy work on PSS.
  •             Represents WCA externally, in relevant platforms/networks focused on MHPSS themes or on field level.

     

    Any other duties as assigned by your supervisor in line with job description and the fulfillment of the tasks.

     

    Requirements

    Knowledge

  •             Post graduate diploma in Psychology, Counselling, Social Sciences or Social Development.
  •             Specialist knowledge of current principles and practices of psychosocial support and child protection programming with children in (post)conflict areas.
  •             Familiarity with War Child evidence based interventions
  •             Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative monitoring & evaluation tools.
  •             Minimum 5 years (I) NGO work in developing countries / conflict areas, preferably with children.
  •             Minimum 3 years in PSS programming in (post)conflict areas.
  •             Minimum 3 years in staff capacity building and experience in providing trainings.
  •             Demonstrated experience in monitoring and evaluation of projects.
  •             Experience of working in education sector in Uganda is desirable.
  •             Experience in implementing interventions at Level 3 & 4 of the MHPSS pyramid is desirable.

     

    Skills

  •             Strong (creative/interactive) training skills.
  •             Strong supervision, coaching and communication skills.
  •             Ability to write good concept notes and donor reports
  •             Able to quickly identify needs / gaps and work towards solutions.
  •             Cultural sensitivity.
  •             Result-oriented.
  •             Fluent in English.
  •             Willing and able to travel regularly.
