Terms of Reference

 

General Objective of the Job:
The Education Assistant ensures the quality implementation of education interventions in compliance with War Child policies, with a focus on supporting education-related research, data collection, and field activities.

Position in the Organisation:
The Education Assistant is part of the technical department and reports to the Education Senior Officer

 

Responsibilities - Result Areas

  1. Monitoring and Implementing Activities:
    • Conduct field visits to Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), Informal Tent Settlements (ITSs), and Public Schools to support the quality implementation of education activities.
    • Assist in the ongoing coaching and mentoring of Education Officers and support coordination of regular meetings.
    • Monitor the implementation of the curriculum, identify gaps, and report on areas for improvement in education and/or child protection capacity building needs.
    • Support the proper use of education tools, ensuring accurate data collection and verification in coordination with Education Technical Officers.
    • Ensure that child protection principles and child participation are integrated into all education activities.

Result:
Field activities are monitored and implemented in alignment with the Child Protection Policy, with challenges identified and addressed.

  1. Coordination and Communication:
    • Assist in coordinating with the technical team regarding weekly/monthly plans, transportation needs, center schedules, and data collection.
    • Support partner organizations in the selection of teachers, ensuring alignment with Ministry of Education (MEHE) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
    • Represent War Child in Education coordination meetings and working groups when required.
    • Share updates with the Education Manager on activities, trends, highlights, and challenges for internal reporting.
    • Report child protection concerns to the Child Protection focal point and ensure appropriate action is taken.
    • Liaise effectively with field staff and collaborate closely with the technical team.

Result:
Coordination and communication are conducted effectively, ensuring all requests are addressed, and child safety concerns are promptly reported.

  1. Competency Building:
    • Assist in identifying competency-building needs for partner staff.
    • Support in the development and delivery of competency-building programs related to education curricula and approaches, adhering to INEE (Inter-agency Network for Education in Emergencies) Standards.
    • Participate in competency-building training offered by War Child, UN organizations, and other partners (when applicable).
    • Cascade training sessions to build the capacity of education staff.
  2. Research and Data Collection:
    • Assist in the design and implementation of research activities related to education interventions, ensuring that data is collected and analyzed according to best practices.
    • Support in conducting assessments of the education programs and interventions, identifying areas for improvement based on findings.
    • Contribute to reports and documentation related to education-related research and evaluations.
    • Monitor education-related research trends and assist in integrating findings into ongoing projects.

Result:
Research activities are implemented efficiently, with data collection and analysis contributing to the improvement of education programs.

 

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Degree in Education or a relevant field.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in formal and/or non-formal education settings.
  • Previous experience in integrated education projects, child protection, or psychosocial support is preferred.
  • Experience with conducting research, assessments, or data collection in educational settings is highly desirable.
  • Experience in coaching teachers or providing teacher training is an asset.
  • Previous experience working with children, refugees, or vulnerable populations is an advantage.

  • Fluent in Arabic with strong written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in small teams and flexibility to take on new tasks.

  • Ability to analyse data and present findings in a clear and concise manner.
