Teacher Job Objective & Responsibilities

A teacher at Hope Academy in Mansorieh will be teaching children from Home of Hope. Home of Hope is a residential Home in Kahaleh that houses and cares for children from backgrounds of abuse and abandonment. The majority of our students have never been to school before and do not know how to read or write. Our program at Hope Academy focuses on teaching basic literacy (English and Arabic) and practical Maths. In addition to teaching academics our school focuses on teaching behavior skills that they are lacking because of their past trauma and difficulties. We are looking for a teacher who is excited about working with our children and the opportunity to help change their lives for the better.

A teacher at Hope Academy helps guide students to be the best they can be in character (e.g. considering others, working together, believing in the themselves, handling frustration), thinking skills, and academics by preparing elementary-level lessons to 1-3 students ages 8-17 in a variety of subjects (ESL, Arabic, Math, Science, Social Studies, Health, Life Skills).

Duties:

  • Prepare 30-45 minute elementary-level lessons and activities from our school curriculum for small groups of students (2-6).
  • Write weekly student observations to be used in chronicling their growth and assessing student needs. (Usually 2-3 sentences)
  • Actively participate in the learning community through exchanging experiences and ideas and participating in training opportunities.
  • Modeling for students the characteristics we expect them to exhibit (e.g. respectful communication with students and staff, an excitement for learning)

Skills and Competencies:

Teachers should have a willingness to learn new ways of doing things (e.g. use of technology, educational approach or philosophy, and student management / discipline). They should have good planning skills, persistence, creativity, patience, and compassion. Those looking to make a difference in someone’s life will find this job very rewarding over time, as each day is a genuine opportunity to change lives for the better.

Other Requirements:

  • Teacher will need their own transportation to the school in Mansourieh and occasionally to the Home of Hope in Kahaleh.
  • Hours are year-round, 8am - 4pm, Monday - Friday
  • Experience teaching or working with children preferred, but not required.
  • Classes other than Arabic are given in English, so spoken English must be very good.
