4-5 days a week, February – June 2020

Your Challenge

Are you a student and looking for an interesting internship in the field of animation and innovative education? Then we have an inspiring opportunity for you at War Child's Can’t Wait to Learn programme! Can’t Wait to Learn is an innovative educational programme that uses a game on a tablet to provide quality education to children in conflict areas who otherwise have no access to education. We are currently active in Lebanon, Jordan, Sudan, Uganda and Chad.

We are looking for an animation intern to help us in simplifying educational concepts for math and reading subjects via animation. We use videos in our games explaining educational Math and Reading concepts and seek to improve/innovate this by the use of animation. By this we achieve 2 goals: clarify a concept and make it more sustainable through re-use in other countries with only an audio switch. In addition, there is the option to investigate how we can use animation to enrich the game story at some points with animation.

The intern is part of the Can’t Wait to Learn department and reports to the Design Lead.

  • Supporting the content production lead and the design lead with preparation of the storyboards
  • Support the education specialist in deciding on types of visualisations and animations appropriate for educational videos for maths and reading
  • Creating the visual and graphical elements according to the visual style and colour scheme of Can’t Wait to Learn under the support of the design lead
  • Creating the animations based on the prepared storyboards.

Your profile

  • You are a 3rd or last year student of an Art school or MBO (Animation or related field)
  • You are enrolled in a Dutch (higher) education institute for the whole duration of the internship
  • Interest in education offered in an innovative digital way
  • Good knowledge off Adobe Illustrator and After Effects
  • Affinity with animation and audio-visual design
  • Curious and inquisitive attitude
  • Excellent command of English language, both spoken and written
  • Accurate, precise and eye for detail
  • Good sense of priorities and time management
  • Fully support War Child’s mandate and mission
  • Available for at least 32 hours per week, starting February 2020.

Our offer

  • The opportunity to gain a fun and relevant learning and working experience in an organization that operates around the world
  • Your animations contribute to a better future for children in conflict areas around the world
  • Learn how the contribution of children and artists in conflict areas is used through co-creation to create a safe and unique game for every context.
